words of romance

A romatic idea for the right moment.

Memorize one of Shakespeare’s love sonnets and recite it to your partner when you are in a romantic setting like a botanical garden. Don’t just suddenly start reciting poetry as this will just sound corny. While you are cuddling your partner, ask in a joking manner, “So is now agood time to recite a love poem to you?” She will probably say yes, expecting you to come up with something of the “Roses are Red…” variety.Instead, look into her eyes, smile and recite the sonnet. Try the sonnet below. If this is too long, just memorize the first four lines and the last two.

Now if it easier for you to sing of your love and you have a pleasant voice you could sing your love a song. It is usually easier to remember the words of a song

Shakespeare Love Sonnet 18

Thou art more lovely and more temperate.
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer’s lease hath all too short a date.
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimmed,
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance or nature’s changing course untrimmed.
But thy eternal summer shall not fade,
Nor lose possession of that fair thou owest,
Nor shall Death brag thou wander’st in his shade
When in eternal lines to time thou grow’st.
So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.

Now if the idea of reciting poetry scares you. Write an original love poem or copy a beautiful one onto lovely stationery and present to your love with a single red rose. You may get bold enough to read the poem to them.

Go ahead get creative with your romance

Super Treat

Time to do something sweet for your partner. who can say no to chocolate. I love hot chocolate and iced chocolate. So I have found couple of recipes for you to try on your bestie.

Hot Chocolate

Cooking Time 5 minutes

Ingredients (serves 4)

  • 1L (4 cups) milk
  • 100g good-quality dark chocolate, finely chopped
  • Marshmallows, to serve
  • Whipped cream or frothed milk

  1. Place the milk in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat and bring to a simmer. Remove from heat and set aside for 1 minute.Keep an eye on this because milk boils over very quickly.
  2. Place 20g of the chocolate in each of four heatproof serving glasses. Pour the hot milk over the chocolate and stir until the chocolate melts and is smooth. Top with cream and marshmallows ( I like the mini marshmallows) and sprinkle with the remaining chocolate grated. Serve immediately.

  • White chocolate variation: Use 100g of good-quality white chocolate instead of the dark chocolate in this recipe.
  • The South Americans were the first people to drink chocolate and they often put chilli in the choc to increase the intensity of taste. I like it with a little chilli ( just a pinch of chilli powder)

Iced Chocolate

Ingredients (serves 2)

  • 2 cups reduced-fat milk
  • 2 tablespoons of quality chocolate topping
  • 1 large scoop reduced-fat double chocolate ice-cream
  • Whipped cream and grated dark chocolate, to serve

Pour chocolate sauce around the inside of the glass, add milk and icecream. Top with cream and grated chocolate. Serve.

You can add a dash of peppermint flavouring and garnish with a mint sprig

Forgotten Kisses

2 egg whites, room temperature
1/8 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/8 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup  castor sugar

2 drops of any food coloring ( if you want to color them)

1 teaspoon vanilla

Hershey’s Kisses (6 oz. package, 36 count, unwrapped) You can just mix chocolate chips into the mixture but not nearly as sexy as the kisses.

Beat egg whites with cream of tartar and salt in small mixer bowl until soft peaks form.
Gradually beat in sugar continue beating until stiff peaks form.
Add vanilla.
Drop meringue mixture by half teaspoonfuls onto greased cookie sheets top each with a Hershey’s Kiss.
Cover kiss completely with a small teaspoonful of meringue.
Place in a preheated 375 degree F oven.
Immediately turn off oven and let cookies remain in oven overnight or until completely dry.

Feed these to your lover slowly.

Chocolate Fondue

Chocolate Fondue

A very romantic thing to do as it involves flames and chocolate. Strawberries are in season so  great time to try it

  • 12 ounces of dark chocolate (chips or roughly chopped if from a block)
  • 8 ounces of heavy cream
  • A pinch of salt
  • Dippables such as strawberries, banana pieces cut into 1-inch chunks, dried apricots, candied ginger, apple pieces and marshmellows.

Now as a fan of the movie ‘Chocolat’ the movie I have been known to put a pinch or 2 of chilli in my chocolate fondue, very nice. Of course you could add rum or brandy instead.

1 Warm the cream over moderate heat until tiny bubbles show and begins to lightly and slowly boil. Add the chocolate and whisk until smooth and full incorporated.

2 Immediately transfer to a fondue pot heated at low or with a low flame, or serve straight from the pot.

3 Arrange the dippables on a platter or plates around the chocolate pot. Use a fondue fork, bamboo skewer, seafood fork, or salad fork to dip the fruit pieces and other dippables into the hot melted cream chocolate mixture. Eat immediately.

If the fondue begins to feel a little stiff, add a tablespoon of heavy cream and stir. It will help it go a little longer. Eventually, it will cook down though and you may need to start a new pot.

Use fresh fruit such as strawberries, pears, or bananas  they are always romantic. Remember feeding the choc dipped fruit to your lover is real sexy thing to do. I would remove it from the fork first don’t want to end up skewering them, not the best way to end a romantic evening.

Go ahead enjoy the fondue a fresh take on giving your mate chocolates.

Chocolate and Strawberries

I just love this image. It makes my mouth water. Tis the season here for strawberries. They are sweet and juicy and tastier at this time of year( Southern hemisphere).

This image is easy to create. Get a straw or kebab stick and gently skewer the tasty fruit. You can use a choc fudge sauce or melted chocolate. If you use melted chocolate add a little cream so it stays liquid. if you want the strawberries to stand up you will need to trim the bottom strawberry so it sits flat. The best thing is you get to feed this to your lover and kiss off any chocolate that escapes.

If it is not strawberry season or you are allergic to this yummy fruit. You can substitute for all sorts of fuit. Pineapple, orange, mandarin etc. Marshmallows are nice also.

Mmmm Yum.
